Uvis Kalniņš who likely is one of the main cadidate for Rio from Latvian swimming, gives interview to local sport channel shortly before the Latvian Nationals (in Latvian).
Four years ago Kalniņš was one of 46 athletes on the Latvian Olympic squad participating in 12 different sports. He was the only male swimmer on the Latvian Olympic team and became the third MSU male swimmer to compete at the Olympics.
His debut in Olympics turned in a 100-meter freestyle personal best (49.96) on Day 4 of the swimming prelims at the Aquatics Centre in Olympic Park. Athlete broke the 50-second barrier for the first time in his career and finished 30th out of 56 participants. He was the youngest athlete who finish in the top 30.
